I don't have any pictures, but wanted to give an update: I'm working on the final i-cords. I'm so close to the end I can taste it. When I first started on these i-cords, I really didn't want to do them. A friend suggested I just use a crochet hook and chain stitch cords, but they looked too flimsy for this massive scarf. So I cried, cursed, took a week off, then started on i-cords. They do look much better.

Once I finish those, I plan to wash, block and then line it with something as the back side looks terrible with all those woven in ends. If anyone has any suggestions for lining material, I'd love to hear it.

Once it is done, I plan to wear it for a day, just to give it a proper send off. Then I'll post pictures.

It's good to find this KAL. I'm glad I'm not alone in tackling this beast. I loaned the Scarf Style book to my friend on her 30th birthday and told her to pick any scarf and I would make it. This is the one she picked. She is choosing the colors and trying for a warmer tone.

If anyone has any advice on lining it when I'm done (sometime in 2010 I think), I'd love to hear it.

I just found this blog. Thanks for letting me join.

I started the Color on Color scarf over a year ago, but then got pregnant and started a new job after being an at home mom. Now, little munchkin is 11 mos. and I have a little free time again...from 9-10 pm!

I'm on section 16 and just ran out of yarn for one color. Had to go through the rest of the pattern to see which one I could substitute with. And I haven't even done the I-cords, since I was afraid to use yarn that I might need later. Oh well, I guess it makes it unique!

Here is the back view of the fair isle section. Yes, I have ends to weave in even though I said I would do this as I went along. This will be a reminder for me to get it done. Hope this helps you.

I'm moving slow on this project, but I am working on it. I'm getting ready to start section 10 tonight after work and I have a couple of questions. The pattern calls for me to leave 45" of color 873 after I have bound off to use later. I can't find anyplace in the pattern that calls for using this yarn that is left. Is it in section 13? I'm probably missing something in reading the pattern. My second question is regarding section 11 - the fairisle stuff. I've never done fairisle and knew it would be a learning experience but I'd like to see what the WS looks like. Would someone be willing to post a picture of the backside of section 11? Thanks.

I am moving slowly knitting the fair isle section. I am knitting with toothpicks! I am using size 4 needles for the scarf to come close to the gauge. I was delighted to discover I would need to use size 1 for this section. I am almost there. It does not appear that substituting colors is creating a problem. They seem so blend well enough, so far anyway.
I read a post somewhere that stated this scarf was designed to be fulled. I think it would give an interesting effect. However, at this point I am not sure how I will feel about this once I finally finish it.

Greetings from another just started Color on Color knitter. Shown here up to section 8, which is about all I have had time for in between all of the other projects I have cast on. I am really enjoying this so far - didn't get crazy about the gauge, just knitting away and feeling hopeful about the magic of blocking.

A quick update--after fussing around for the last few hours (in between helping with homework, making dinner and supervising internet surfing), I am on my third i-cord: 2 strands (not 1) on size 2's. They look cute, I think. I like them much better than the skinny little 1 stranded one that I started with. Okay, back to knitting i-cords!

I love those multi colored i-cords dangling from this scarf. I love them in the photos and I love the thought of those little dreadlocks. I knitted one i-cord last night: it was a bit of a pain to knit (3 stitches, size 2 needles!) and when I was finished, I thought it looked weak and feeble. Should I knit a 2 stranded i-cord to make it look a little stronger? Should I chalk it up to the first i-cord, and they will get progressively better? Am I i-cord impaired? I want to love my i-cords . . . And to top it all off, I couldn't get a close-up shot of my i-cord!!!

I am well on my way now with this masterpiece. I started and frogged once due to my color choices. It is flowing better now.
I put this kit together with Paternayan I was able to purchase from a warehouse sale. It was quite the task digging through boxes of these knots. They all looked alike after a while. I spent hours on the floor sorting and even made another trip to the sale thinking I did not have enough choices. I will be substituting some of the colors listed in the pattern due to availability. I always have the option to purchase colors I was not able to find at the sale.
I came to the conclusion that sorting the knots/skeins by the number series works best for substituting colors. I choose the closest color in the stash for the section. I have even been lucky to have a few of the exact colors for some of the sections.
I have finished section 10. I plan to weave the ends as I go along so I am not faced with the mess in the end. That is my least favorite thing to do with any knitting project.
I am looking forward to following everyone's progress.
